Outbound

Description

Outbound is a single-player arcade mecha robot shooter, set in the fourth millennium at a time when space exploration and colonization has already taken place, with humans having colonies in far star systems.

A conflict has erupted between the Inner Colonies, controlled by Centrist forces (e.g. baddies) and the old Federation of space colonies (e.g. good guys) - but the baddies have been winning lately, and you - as one of the elite vanguard, are now trapped with remnants of the Federation and trying to clear the way for your Federation forces through the main battle group of the Centrists and escape to the farther Outer Colonies in your mecha robot.

A linear map of the current star system shows a sequence of eight planets to conquer, and on each planet you have a square map split in smaller sections to be cleared from other enemy mechas/tanks/missile launchers and such. You have more than one mecha, but you only use them one at a time. There are also buildings to destroy or capture (setting a spawn flag by it). If one of your robot mechs are destroyed, you immediately enter your next mecha in battle at the nearest flag, and the existing battle situation is continued.

The fighting is done in a 3rd person isometric tactical view of your mecha and the immediate surroundings. By clearing/conquering a territory, it allows you to move to the next mission/planet. Not all buildings need to be destroyed to finish a mission, only the enemy vehicles.
