Pirates vs Corsairs: Davy Jones's Gold

Description

Pirates vs Corsairs: Davy Jones's Gold is similar to Bluecoats: North and South, but with a pirate theme. It is an turn-based strategy game with real-time battles. Players choose to pick sides with Pirates or Corsairs and must defeat the opposing side by destroying all their fleets and capturing their ports. The main game stage is a map divided in several territories. When players send one of their fleet to an empty territory, they capture it. If there's one enemy fleet already in that territory, a battle ensues. If there's a friendly fleet in that territory, the fleets merge.

Battles are played in real time. Each side controls three types of units: rifflemen, swordsmen and gunner galleons. Rifflemen are fast and can move in any direction, but are slow and fragile. Swordsmen are fast, but can can't move back. Gunner galleons pack huge firepower, but can only move vertically. If one side looses all units, their territory is lost. Sides can also retreat, in which case the territory is lost, but the remaining units are not and go back to a friendly territory.

New fleets can be bought with gold, which can be gained by collecting treasure chests scattered around the map, or by establishing trade routes. Trade routes are established when two ports with a dashed line connecting them are captured by the same army. Each port in the line grants one bag of gold per galleon travel. If an enemy fleet is placed in a territory where the dashed line passes, the enemy can try to plunder the galleon.

Plundering happens through a mini game: the attacking side moves automatically towards the front of the ship and must avoid parrots and rocks or barrels in its way, while shooting men and barrels thrown by the defending side. If the attackers get to the captain of the galleon, the gold is lost. Ports can also be captured through a mini game: the attacking side must shoot all the men protecting the port, while avoiding to get shot.

The game also features some random events. Sharks and ghost ships can attack each side, and reinforcement fleets can be granted to the side that has captured a skull island territory. The game can be played by one or two players.
