Power Surge

Game cover: Power Surge

Description

Power Surge is a drag racing simulation game, which in practice is a contest of acceleration and raw speed between two cars over a quarter of a mile. The two cars race side by side, not against each other, but against a set time.

The player starts by selecting a car from an initial selection of two and by picking a driver from a choice of eight, each with their own characteristics. The player can then pick between a single race or a full tournament season. When playing a single race, there are three tracks to choose from: Arrowhead Raceway, Georgia; Armadillo Dragway, Texas; and Sunshine Beach Dragway, California. The full season pitches the player against random opponents that needs to be defeated to move onto the next round. At the end of the season a championship trophy is awarded to the driver with the most points.

Winning races earn the player money which can then be used to upgrade their car by swapping the engine, transmission, tires or suspensions for better ones, or to buy a more powerful car altogether.

The game supports sunny or rainy weather conditions which have unique effects on each of the tracks due to their different tarmac surfaces that alters the handling properties of the cars.

There are three difficulty levels. The multiplayer mode lets up to 8 players compete over a local area network. The game can be played with a keyboard, joystick or steering wheel.
