Quixel

Game cover: Quixel

Description

Quixel is a nonogram puzzle game where the player is tasked with helping the eponymous diminutive alien to make sense of the unfamiliar environment of planet Earth by capturing images of his surroundings.

The goal of the game is to reveal small images by painting tiles in a way that matches the logical clues provided. The numbers above and on the left of the grid show how many consecutive tiles are in a specific row or column. If there is more than one digit in a single row, it means there are several groups of adjacent tiles, separated by at least one unpainted tile. As for Sudoku, there is always a logical next step; the player should never have to guess.

The X tool, activated by the toggle on the bottom right of the grid, can be used to mark out which tiles should not be painted. If stuck, the player can also use two different types of hints, revealing either a random single tile or a group of them.

The game gets harder as the player moves forward, and the initial 5×5 grids progressively give place to 10×10 ones. Overall, the game contains 1164 puzzles, split into 44 collections, each representing a different location on Earth with its own custom in-game background.
