Red Hot Overdrive

Red Hot Overdrive is an arcade 8-bit styled racing game similar to OutRun. The player drives a sports car through different environments seamlessly linked together into a single course divided by checkpoints that extend time. There are five environments in total and two checkpoints per environment. While driving the player needs to pass other cars, avoid hazards and slow down in turns. When bumping into something, the car immediately stops completely. The classic formula is updated with fuel and damage. To keep the motor running and to avoid crashing respectively, it is possible to stop at a gas station near the end of a section. There, gas is slowly refilled and damage is repaired, but the time keeps ticking. There are four soundtracks to choose from and it is possible to honk (but with no effect). It is made with the AGS engine, which is generally only used for point-and-click adventure games, for the September 2014 MAGS competition with the theme 'Cross-country'.
