River Rat

Game cover: River Rat

Description

River Rat puts you at the controls of a speedboat as it races its way up a river to travel a certain distance before time runs out. You can move both ways towards the sides of the river, but can only move forwards along it. The speed with which you move forwards can be toggled between race and cruise modes.

While making your way up the river, your path will be obstructed by numerous obstacles. There are ducks, swimmers, ramps, row-boats, rocks and piers. Hitting a duck does nothing (to you), but hitting a swimmer will cause you to lose control of the craft for a few seconds, and going over a ramp will launch you into the air where your rudder no longer works. Hitting anything else will cause your boat to explode, and a loss of time when you change to the next boat. You start with three boats, and the game ends when all boats are lost.

Points are earned for distance travelled along the river. Surplus time at the end of each level is converted into extra points. Later levels become more congested, and require a further distance to be travelled.
