Samurai Deeper Kyo

Samurai Deeper Kyo is a 2D fighting game based on the manga and anime created by Akimine Kamijō, similar to contemporary titles such as Samurai Shodown and The Last Blade, which is set in Edo-period Japan in the aftermath of the Battle of Sekigahara and the rise of the Tokugawa Shogunate. The game includes a single-player story mode with multiple unlockable characters, as well as a versus mode for one or two players.

The most notable feature of the game is the assist system. Each player selects a primary character and an assist character, and the assist character can be called in at any point during the match to interrupt the opponent or provide other support. There are a total of twelve playable characters including unlockables, plus an additional eight characters only available as assists. Another unique aspect of the game is that there are no timeout victories; if the timer expires, the game goes into a sudden-death mode, where the first player to land their ultimate move wins the match.
