SegaSaturn Modem (included games)
Description
The Japanese version of the SegaSaturn Modem accessory was sold with several different software packages throughout its life. The original release in July 1996 included the following software, none of which was ever available for purchase separately:
- SegaSaturn Internet Vol.1, an internet web browser application.
- Pad Nifty, a bulletin-board application that let the user browse special Sega Saturn message boards.
- A special version of Virtua Fighter Remix which allows for online play.
Two other packages were later released, which each include an upgraded version of the web browser software and an additional game for online play:
- Cyber Troopers Virtual On for SegaNet, included in a December 1996 package. This version of the game was also available separately.
- DecAthlete for SegaNet, included in a 1997 anniversary package. This version of the game was not available separately.
All three games which were included in the various packages were modified from their standard retail releases, both to add the networked multiplayer functions, as well as to remove all offline/single-player content. As such, none will work without a functional modem and SegaNet service.
