Serpent

Serpent is an underwater shooter played on single screen levels viewed from a side view. The player controls a submarine that can move in all directions and shoot torpedoes left or right. The objective of the game is to kill as many serpents as possible before the time runs out. When starting out there is only one serpent but by shooting its body, it is split in two. To prevent this from happening, it is necessary to hit its head which will kill it and send it to the bottom. In addition to the serpents, there are killer whales that at times move across the screen. These have to be avoided since any contact with them leads to death. With the serpents, five collisions are needed for the player to die.

There are six different levels to choose from before starting a game. The first five become progressively harder while the sixth level can be customized by the user. Here the player can set the speed of the submarine and its rate of fire as well as the speed of the serpents and the killer whale.
