Slayaway Camp

Game cover: Slayaway Camp

Description

Slayaway Camp is a sliding block logic puzzle game with levels styled as a series of low-budget 80’s trash horror films. The player controls a killer and needs to murder young adults in gruesome ways. Levels are called scenes and they are grouped together as movies unlocked gradually. Controls are limited to moving a killer in any of four directions. He will slide forward in a single motion until meeting an obstacle, a teen to kill or a hazard. Teenagers are always killed in gruesome ways in cinematic sequences, including decapitation, incineration, stabbing etc. When they are scared they can also run into hazards like fire or water, or the killer can for instance push over a bookcase. A level is completed when all teens are killed, but some scenes only offer a limited amount of turns before the police arrives.

Later levels let the player experiment with different approaches. The gameplay is turn-based and at any moment it is possible to rewind a scene entirely or go forwards or backwards a few steps. Completing scenes is rewarded with coins as a currency. They can also be earned by completing a reflex sequence for an additional kill at the end of each level. The player has to match a marker moving over a bar and react when it passes the kill zone. In the game's video store the coins can be used to unlock new killers and gorepacks with finishers. During levels the coins can also be used to receive hints or view a full solution.

New elements are introduced gradually, such as policemen that have a small radius to detect and arrest the killer, land mines, or telephones that distract characters to lure them away in a direction. There are ten movies in total for over 200 levels. At any moment it is possible to switch from a bird's-eye view to a top-down view to get a clearer view of the single-screen level layouts.

The PC release is an updated version of the browser release. While the browser version was free with advertisements and optional in-app purchases through Kongregate's Kreds currency, the PC version is a commercial release with ads and purchases scrapped. It also has enhanced graphics, additional levels and new NC-17 versions of the Slayaway Camp films.
