Description
SpeedRunners is a competitive 2D platformer racing game rooted in side-scrolling action. The concept began as a free browser game titled SpeedRunner in 2011, later evolving into SpeedRunner HD for Xbox Live Indie Games. It was then reimagined as SpeedRunners, which entered Steam Early Access in 2013 and saw its full release on Windows, macOS, and Linux in 2016. Subsequent ports later expanded its reach in 2017 and again in 2020.
Gameplay centers around fast-paced running and elimination races among up to four players, either locally or online. Competitors use grappling hooks, rockets, mines, and other power-ups to stay on screen while trying to knock opponents off. The camera follows the leading player; falling far behind causes elimination and triggers a shrinking arena, heightening the challenge. Players win the match by outlasting others over multiple rounds. Progression through experience unlocks new characters, skins, power-ups, and levels.
