Super Star Trek meets 25th Anniversary

Game cover: Super Star Trek meets 25th Anniversary

Description

A remake/conversion of the 1978 strategy game Super Star Trek, mixed with the graphics of Star Trek: 25th Anniversary and the voices from the TV series.

The main mechanics are the same as the original text-only Super Star Trek by Bob Leedom. The player needs to explore the 64 sectors, find the Klingon ships and destroy them, carefully managing the available resources: energy and weapons. There is a limited time to do so, typically around 30 days. The Enterprise can get damaged during combat, which can generate malfunctions: a damaged engine has a limited range for warp speed, phasers performance can be reduced, torpedoes might become unavailable, and the Enterprise screen can stop functioning. The player must find one of the Federation starbases to repair the ship and replenish energy.

Unlike the original game, there is a graphic interface, sounds, and animations. The playing field is represented inside the screen of the Enterprise, as seen in Star Trek: 25th Anniversary. The Enterprise and the Klingon ships are small sprites in the middle of the screen. The player issues commands by interacting with the crew. For example, by clicking on Sulu's console, the player can ask the pilot to lay in a course for another sector or activate the impulse speed. Enterprise weapons are activated by clicking on Chekov's console. Shields are raised by selecting the picture of the deflectors. Additionally, each time the player performs an action, the original voices of the cast will give him feedback.

There are four difficulty levels available, from 1 to 4. At difficulty 4, Klingons are harder to destroy, there is only one starbase in the grid, and the number of days available is reduced, so the player must carefully plan each move.
