Description

Takahashi Meijin no Bug-tte Honey is a side-scrolling action game that uses characters from the TV anime "Bug tte Honey" (1986-1987) based on the game Adventure Island of Takahashi Meijin.

Takahashi Meijin has been kidnapped by the Great King Kyura and Honey, a bee fairy girl, has to rescue him. In the first stage of the game the player controls Honey who has the ability to fly and shoot heart bullets. After being rescued by Bug-tte, Takahashi becomes a player character in the second and later stages. He throws a stone ax to attack his enemies, but cannot remove obstacles like fire and rocks. That is only possible if he takes a power-up item for the third time to turn his weapon into fireballs.

In order to defeat the boss of each stage, the player has to find eight hidden eggs to get the eight correct letters of the password that will unlock the doors of the final building. Unlike the later stages there is no boss to fight in the first one. Touching an egg will send the player to a Breakout/Arkanoid-like stage. Like Arkanoid the player must keep a ball in play by manoeuvring a paddle beneath the ball so that it does not fall through the bottom of the screen. However, in this game, each paddle stage is composed of two screens aligned vertically and thus the player controls two paddles. That means if the ball passes from the bottom screen to the top screen or the other way around, the screen changes automatically.

To complete these stages, the player must first collect the one correct letter from the four letters that may fall from one of the blocks after hitting them. The screen will flash white if the right letter has been collected. Then every block from the upper screen must be cleared to open the gate in the ceiling. Once the gate is open, the ball has to be shoot through it to get back to the action stage. Collecting the wrong letter instead, will make the screen flash red and the player will lose a paddle. This will also happen if the player miss the ball with the pad on the bottom screen. Losing all the paddles will reduce the remaining lives in the action mode by one.

The player starts with three lives and a life meter, but there are no continues.
