The Adventures of Square

The Adventures of Square is a humorous, cartoonish first-person shooter. The hero, one edgy fellow named Square, must stop the nefarious plans of the Circle of Evil, a malevolent cabal of circles angling for conquest of the entire Shape Land. With a plethora of baddies to keep him on edge, it's up to Square to run circles around his enemies and save the day.

The game is based on GZDoom, a source port of the Doom engine. The gameplay remains similar to Doom, with the player looking for keys and manipulating switches on his way to the exit from each level, all while defeating crowds of bad guys that include both circle-shaped villains and subverted security robots. The capabilities of the GZDoom engine add various innovations, such as scripted sequences, grenades that can be thrown at any time while using other weapons, or the ability to pick up and carry crates of TNT to blow up weak walls or unfortunate enemies. Humorous one-liners from Square accompany the action.

Several maps for the multiplayer deathmatch "Square-Off" mode are included. The game also includes a single-player "time attack" mode where the player speedruns through the multiplayer maps, swarming with enemies.
