The Hero of Kendrickstone
Description
The opening chapter in a fantasy series, this introductory game concerns itself with a youth's departure from the sleepy home village of Forester's Hollow, seeking fame, fortune and adventure in the local borderlands capital of Kendrickstone, founded on the very body of a slain stone giant. But in the absence of the Flowering Court's stabilizing influence, logistically impossible bandit raids are putting the authorities on the defensive, and Duke Leofric II's centre of power soon finds itself isolated and choked off, the target of virtual siege.
Will the player choose to learn the roguish ropes under the great protector Wililam of Hallowford, serve as a squire with Dame Mildred of Sonnemerci -- of the Knights of Kendrickstone chivalric order, apprentice under court wizard Isan of Korilandis, or strike it off on their own as a free agent? All players will be confronted with the same scenarios, though as with the Quest for Glory games, certain approaches will be more viable depending on which skill sets players have cultivated.
This is a "choice and consequences" game: they invite the player to pick from lists of options, and then factor those selections down the road. Superficially resembling a Choose-Your-Own-Adventure, nonetheless beneath the surface of this game beats the heart of an RPG.
