The Last Fortune

Bennetor is attacked by forces from the neighbouring, and so far allied, kingdom Variste. After protecting his/her home, the player character sets out to find out Variste's motivations for the attack. Soon it becomes clear that the whole balance of power of the region hinges on finding one last fortune...

The Last Fortune is a side-scrolling action game with platforming elements. While walking from point A to B (usually left to right), the player jumps over gaps and other obstacles and primarily fights various enemies. Besides swinging the melee weapon up close, the only other available option is using the character's active special attack. However, this requires energy which is refilled by picking up lightning symbols during the levels. Between levels the player character visits a shop and can spend coins (earned by slaying enemies) for additional health, extra lives or more abilities like a double jump or other special attacks. Getting hit by enemies deducts live energy and eventually leads to death and the need to restart from the last checkpoint. When all lives are gone, the player needs to restart the whole level or purchase a continue.

When starting a new game, the player has the choice between two characters: Andre and Jeanne. They do not only have different special attacks, but also have their own dialogue during the frequent story sequences. Those consist of animations in the game engine and speech bubbles of the speaking characters. There are three difficulty levels and an optional arcade mode which does away with the story.
