Description

The Oni Taiji!! Mezase! Nidaime Momotarō is a sugoroku-style board game themed after the Momotarō story of Japanese folklore. The folk hero Momotarō, famous for defeating demons and monsters, has grown old and retired. One day, four giant food items — a persimmon, a chestnut, a melon, and an eggplant — appear floating down the river, and from inside each of them appears a baby, just as Momotarō himself did as a child. He takes the children in and raises them, and eventually they decide to continue Momotarō's legacy, and must now compete to determine which of them will become Momotarō's successor.

The game is a simple turn-based board game where each player takes turns rolling a die and moving accordingly. Spaces may contain demons, which must be fought in dice and rock-paper-scissors style minigames and award points when defeated; tengu, which let the player play minigames to earn bonuses; or shops where items can be purchased. The goal of each map is to locate and defeat a boss demon, which is extremely powerful and which awards a great many points when felled, after which the game ends and points are tallied. There is both a story mode through each map in order, and a free mode where only a single map is played. Up to four players can play at once, with empty slots filled by computer players. As a bonus, there is also a set of five narrated picture stories that recount various folk tales.
