The Percussor
Description
The Percussor is a 2D combination fixed and scrolling shoot-em-up. You control an aircraft that has eight-way movement, and fires in the direction it is facing. It is armed with both guns and missiles. Your objective is to destroy all of the enemy ground-bases in the region, while avoiding enemy counter-attacks. The bases are spread over several screens, with at most one per screen and are only susceptible to missile attack. The enemy includes saucers, helicopters which may drop bombs, and heat seeking missiles.
Destroying bases is done in a fixed screen mode, but you can scroll between bases. Moving to the next base is accomplished by building up to maximum thrust on the edge of the screens, and then continuing to thrust in that direction. At this point, the screen will start to scroll and you will come under attack by planes and shielded saucers. Running into a cloud in thrust mode will prevent you from being able to shoot. After you have stopped thrusting, you will be again restricted to the current screen.
Limited fuel is provided for completing each region, and running out will cost a life. Later levels increase in difficulty by upping the number of enemies, the number of bases that need to be destroyed, and also by equipping the enemy's ground infrastructure with air-defence guns.
