The Terrible Whiteness of Appalachian Nights

Game cover: The Terrible Whiteness of Appalachian Nights

Description

The Terrible Whiteness of Appalachian Nights is a short ASCII horror game. The player takes the role of a woman, represented by the letter 'K,' as she lives in her house with her husband and two kids for five days. The player moves around with the arrow keys and interacts with characters or objects by walking into them. After doing a task that she says she need to do (or not), the player can interact with her bed to go to sleep, advancing time by a few hours. The ASCII graphics change color depending on the day or narrative event. Loud, glitchy, siren-like electronic music constantly plays throughout the entire game.

The game starts on Monday and ends on Friday, at which point the ending plays. The ending has a radically different artstyle and gameplay using the mouse instead of the keyboard. The game ends with a black screen as the music, now reduced to a pulsing electronic siren, plays indefinitely.
