Taking place in 2015 Japan with events, historical horses and jockeys of the time, the player has several new features to make use of:

• Edit data from the previous game can carry over to this game.
• The Bloodline Inheritance system allows the player to study a horse's lineage, and which breeding mares they were born from.
• Traditional horse racing scenarios from as early as 1982 can be recreated as well as a Future Scenario for 2016.
• The horse jockey can marry another character to add drama to the game's story.
• The World Championship Showdown held every five years, allows the player to establish a ranch in Europe or USA and compete against national champions.
• A ranch has multiple facilities that affect how the horses breed and are raised.
• A training method called "All-Out Finishing" is usable only once per horse. It grants boosts to a racehorse's talents, while sacrificing its lifespan and health.
• A customizable sandbox world, gives the player freedom to practice horse racing at full potential.
• The new online mode "Historical Horse Battle", exclusive to the PS3 and Vita releases, allows the player to play the role of a racing jockey, or a cheering spectator.
