Xavior

Xavior is a 1-player arcade game for the ZX Spectrum.

As its only survivor, Xavior must save his race from complete extinction. Deep beneath the desolate surface of his ancestor home, Xavior must search a vast subterranean complex filled with locked doors and dangerous creatures. Xavior can move and fire in four directions as he looks for constituent sections of DNA which, when assembled, form the vital chains needed for his people to thrive once again.

Various rooms have orbs. These can unlock up to four doors before the player must find another orb to open more doors. The player starts with three lives, and loses a life if they touch an enemy. There are a total of 4,096 rooms to explore and 250 different creatures to fight.
