Zombie Monkeys Out of the Trees

Zombie Monkeys Out of the Trees is a twin-stick shooter (one stick controls movement and the other aim) in which the player, in the shoes of a little monkey, has to survive waves of attacking zombie monkeys. The action takes place on a single screen, but since the sprites are relatively small there are still a lot of enemies present. The monkey uses a projectile weapon plus a limited special attack, e.g. shooting a fire ball which causes area burning damage or throwing a big bowling ball.

In contrast to other similar games, there is no break between waves. The new wave just triggers more and different enemies to spawn. When the area is cleared, a new level with a new map is unlocked. Said maps may have environmental hazards, e.g. a lava river which gets bigger over time, and special enemy formations. Some killed enemies drop power-ups like health, weapons (are equipped in addition to the one held and can be changed at any time), ammo or special attacks (replace the current one).
