Zoyon Patrol

Game cover: Zoyon Patrol

Description

Zoyon Patrol is an educational game for the Apple II.

Zaphyr Island is an imaginary island located in the South Pacific. Named after its discoverer, Basil Zaphyr, the island's most unique features are its rich variety of natural habitats and the native wildlife that inhabit it. These animals called zoyons, are an endangered species that must be protected. Occasionally, they wander into Zaphyropolis, and Mayor Baldwin has created an agency called the Zoyon Patrol to locate, trap, and return the zoyons to their natural habitat. You will direct a trained staff and manage all agency resources.

The player receives reports from concerned citizens of zoyon spotting within Zaphyropolis. The player can ask for more information regarding the zoyon description. These descriptions can be used to determine what type of zoyon is on the loose, and its approximate location. After identifying the zoyon, the player can determine what type of bait and trap would work best for them. The player uses maps of the city to locate the zoyon, and send staff to capture it. The player can send out observer, science, and capture teams, all of which cost a specific amount of money per hour to deploy. The Lempel, a trained tracking animal, can be used to locate the zoyon. The player must use a database to determine what time of zoyon they are tracking, and which bait would work best for them. All of this requires careful management of the agency's budget.
