dB-SOFT Inc.
Description
dB-SOFT Inc. (デービーソフト株式会社) was a Japanese software developer based in Sapporo, Hokkaido. The company was established in May 1980 as Computer Land Hokkaido (株式会社コンピューターランド北海道), initially releasing software under the Seven Turkey brand. In 1983 they changed their name to dB-SOFT.
dB-SOFT released a wide range of software for various home computers; not just games, but also productivity and business software such as the dB-BASIC compiler, and the P1.EXE word processor. In 1985, the company started developing and publishing game software for the Nintendo Famicom, and also briefly entered the adult PC games market under the Macadamia Soft brand.
Around 1990, the company largely left the games market to focus on their other software businesses; much of the games staff left in 1990 to establish Agenda, while another group left in 1991 to establish software company Data Craft. The web design package Hotall was dB-SOFT's flagship product through the late 1990s. All operations were transferred to NetFarm Communications in 2001, and dB-SOFT itself ceased operations in 2003. dB-SOFT founder Sadayuki Furuya was named president of NetFarm in 2006.
