HAL Laboratory is a video game developer based in Tokyo, Japan. It was founded on 21 February 1980. The company's name is derived from the HAL 9000 computer from the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey. As of 1 July 2019, they had 169 employees.

They are best known for their work on Mother, Kirby, and Super Smash Bros. games.
