Description

Supermono Studios is a privately held video game development company based in London, United Kingdom. Incorporated on 8th June 2010, the studio was founded by former Lionhead Studios developer Tak Fung and artist Dave Ferner. Prior to the company’s formation, Fung operated independently under the name Studio FungFung. The name “Supermono” was selected to incorporate the Japanese word mono (“things”), replacing the initially planned name “SuperThings.”

The studio became known for creating mobile games and applications for iOS and Android, particularly during the rise of smartphone gaming in the early 2010s. Its most notable releases include MiniSquadron, EpicWin, Fox vs. Duck, and Forever Drive. MiniSquadron received both critical and commercial success and was later ported to multiple platforms, while EpicWin gained attention for blending productivity software with role-playing mechanics. Forever Drive, a free-to-play futuristic racing title incorporating community-generated tracks, represented the studio’s shift toward mobile live service models.

In December 2011, Supermono Studios was acquired by the U.S.-based mobile and location-based gaming company Red Robot Labs. The purchase followed Red Robot Labs raising $8.5 million in venture capital earlier that year. At the time of the acquisition, Red Robot stated that the deal would expand its internal expertise in mobile graphics technology and strengthen development of its R2 platform. The acquisition increased Red Robot Labs' total staff to 33 employees, with six based in the United Kingdom. Industry figures associated with Red Robot Labs during this period included former Sony executive Phil Harrison, who joined as an advisor.

After the acquisition, Supermono continued to release and maintain its titles, including an expanded version of MiniSquadron and location-based arcade game Rescue Rush. Public activity from the company gradually declined. The last known update to one of its products occurred in November 2020 with a compatibility update for EpicWin. The company's official website became inactive in 2021, and no subsequent public development activity has been documented.
