Sybex Inc. was founded in California by Dr. Rodnay Zaks in 1976. The company's primary function has been in computer book publishing. The company has published many game strategy guides. Since its inception, Sybex books are translated, published and distributed worldwide through a large network of partners.
The first Sybex title, Microprocessors, was an immediate bestseller, selling out in weeks without bookstore distribution.
In 1997 Sybex divisions included:
- Sybex France (founded 1976)
- Sybex Verlag GmbH (founded 1981, Germany)
- SYBEX Uitgeverij B.V. (founded 1988, The Netherlands)
