Castlequest

Castlequest is a text adventure game originally written in FORTRAN and seeing only a limited release on mainframes. In the late '80s the game received a more widespread release through GEnie, a predecessor of the Internet.

The game plays similarly to other text adventure games of the time. The player explores rooms which are described in text and connected to other rooms. The player can use VERB-NOUN statements to describe what they want to do. The player has an inventory in which to store items to use in other rooms.

The setting is an old castle in Eastern Europe that the player investigates. Various typical fantasy and horror elements are featured in the castle such as a vampire, a wizard, a hunchback, etc.
