Command & Conquer 3: Kane's Wrath

Game cover: Command & Conquer 3: Kane's Wrath

Description

Command & Conquer 3: Kane's Wrath is the official expansion pack for Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars.

The expansion adds a new singleplayer campaign with Kane in the center, boasting 13 new missions which spread over 20 years: from the rebirth of the Brotherhood of Nod following the events of Firestorm, through the Third Tiberium War and beyond. As with previous Tiberium universe expansion packs, the campaign mode of Kane's Wrath does not give the player the option to choose missions to play, and is entirely linear.

Aside from new units, structures, upgrades and support powers for the existing factions, there are 6 more armies to choose from: Steel Talons and ZOCOM as GDI subfactions, Black Hand and Marked of Kane as branches of Nod, and Traveler-59 and Reaper-17 as Scrin cults. Each of the new subfactions specializes in some aspects of their respective base arsenals but are lacking in others, e.g. Black Hand focusing on infantry and flame weapons but having no aircraft, or Traveler-59 having fast units and improved mind control capabilities, but lacking hard-hitting units of their own. These subfactions also received units, upgrades and support powers which are exclusive to them, or are modified from their original versions.

Epic units are a key addition to every arsenal, requiring special factories to be built. These are massive, expensive, slow but powerful vehicles which can permanently garrison a limited number of infantry squads as additional weapons (or, in the case of engineer-type units, repair pods). Each of these epic units has a different special ability - the GDI MARV can quickly harvest large quantities of Tiberium, the Nod Redeemer can temporarily cause enemy units in a large area to fire on each other, and the Scrin Eradicator Hexapod is the only one that can garrison a commando-type unit (Mastermind or Prodigy) to self-teleport in moderate distances.

An exclusive addition to the Windows version of this expansion is the Global Conquest mode, which is a modified version of the War of the Ring mode from The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-earth II, albeit available in singleplayer only. The player chooses to play as GDI, Nod or Scrin (with access to their subfactions' arsenals), and starts with randomly placed bases on the world map. Each faction has a different secondary objective (GDI enforces peace, Nod causes unrest, and Scrin eliminates human presence in cities), but the game can be won by eliminating the other two factions. In a turn-based gameplay, all armies build bases, train and move task forces, and cast support powers on each other or on cities which form the basis of the secondary objectives. Battles can be resolved automatically or in the usual real-time mode with the starting units and structures matching the ones in that area of the turn-based map. Bases can be upgraded in tiers, and third-tier ones can either build a superweapon, an epic unit factory, or a high-tier support power structure that is otherwise unseen in the game.
