Command & Conquer

Description
Command & Conquer was to be a live service platform for multiple real-time strategy titles in the franchise. The first included game was to have the content originally announced on 10 December 2011 as Command & Conquer: Generals 2.
Generals 2 itself was to take place in 2023 and feature three warring sides: the European Union (EU), Asia-Pacific Alliance (APA) and the Global Liberation Army (GLA). Their play styles were analogous to the USA, China and original GLA factions in the original Generals game. Each faction was to be split among various generals that the player could choose to play as, with unique units, specialties and trade-offs, just like in Zero Hour.
On 15 August 2012, the project was overhauled, and the Generals 2 name was no longer used officially, as the focus shifted on creating a live service. While a singleplayer campaign was planned and at least voiced animatics were made, it was announced not to be present in the released product. However, after negative reception from the community, campaigns were quickly announced to be available after launch in 2014. A smaller set of generals would be available to all players, while the rest would be purchasable. Several iterations of a perks system were made, where players could gradually unlock powers and upgrades to use in future matches.
In mid-2013, a closed alpha stage was launched, with owners of Command & Conquer: The Ultimate Collection getting priority access via the redeem code that came with all copies. As per player feedback, the game changed several of its mechanics (e.g. oil was removed as a secondary resource, and replaced with oil derricks that brought regular credits like in prior games). On 29 October 2013, when an overhaul patch was scheduled to be pushed, the game was cancelled and the development studio was shut down as part of major internal reshuffling at Electronic Arts. While a pre-written announcement stated that alternatives for resuming development were being looked into, this never occurred, and after a few weeks, the game's servers were shut down, rendering it entirely unplayable.
