Cookie Run
Description
Cookie Run is a side-scrolling endless runner/auto-run platformer and a spiritual successor to OvenBreak 2. The game features many anthropomorphic "Cookies" who escape from a witch's oven to run through many different areas mostly made up of sweets and other foodstuff. As in OvenBreak 2, the available buttons are Slide and Jump, where the latter includes a double jump from mid-air. While running, energy is consumed over time or when colliding with obstacles, and a run is over once the energy bar is depleted. The Cookeis are followed around by little creatures called "Pets". Each Cookie or Pet has its own individual skill that allows them to fly, create items to pick up, or enter special bonus stages. The regular bonus round from OvenBreak 2 is also included, but requires the letters 9 letters now in order to spell BONUSTIME. Before the game, the player chooses a Main Cookie, a Relay Cookie that can continue a run with half an energy bar when after the first one is exhausted, a pet, and up to three treasures with additional effects such as score bonuses, slower energy consumption, or speed increases. All skills and effects can be further upgraded using the game's two currencies: Coins, which are found within the stages, and Crystals, which can be won in events or bought via micro transactions.
Other than OvenBreak 2, which relied on a single level and a fixed set of Gingerbread men, Cookie Run is being constantly expanded with new characters, items and episodes. As of Summer 2016, the Korean version of the game includes five main episodes and two special episodes. The main episodes are endless runs through up to eleven stages, where each final stage is looped indefinitely, unless all health is used up before reaching the end. The first special episode. the Ghost Pirate's Island of Coins, is a single long map designed to farm coins, where all Cookies' and Pets' skills (but not the Treasures' effects) are deactivated. The second special episode, the Tower of Frozen Waves, is a collection of 300 challenges over 100 short stages, each with a set of special conditions and rules.
