Counter-Strike 2

Game cover: Counter-Strike 2

Description

Rather than being a full-fledged sequel, Counter-Strike 2 is essentially a port of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive to the Source 2 engine. It replaced Global Offensive on Steam under the same appID, bringing over players' inventories to the new game.

Like its predecessor, CS2 is a tactical multiplayer first-person shooter where players join a team of terrorists or counter-terrorists and work to eliminate all members of the opposing team while completing their own team's objectives. Money awarded at the end of each round can be used to purchase new weapons and equipment at the start of the next. All the game modes from CS:GO were ported over to CS2, with the exception of Arms Race (which was eventually added in the "A Call to Arms" update on February 6, 2024) and the battle royale mode, Danger Zone.

The most significant change to the gameplay of CS:GO is the behavior of Smoke Grenades, which are now dynamic volumetric objects that interact with the environment and react to lighting, gunfire, and explosions, enabling players to shoot or blow holes in the smoke screen to peek through it. In addition, many maps have been recreated from scratch to make use of the new engine's graphical capabilities.
