Darkwood Manor
Description
Darkwood Manor is a text adventure game in which the player must solve the murder committed in Darkwood Manor, the residence of Lord and Lady Wethermere. The object of the game is to unmask the killer from the clues scattered in the various locations. This can be done by first finding the murder weapon that is hidden somewhere. When it is found the player may question the nine characters that he meets in the manor. Each will tell what he or she was doing at the time of the murder, but one of them is lying. In order to question them, type "QUESTION (CHARACTER)". When the player knows who the murderer is, he can accuse that character of the murder by typing "ACCUSE (CHARACTER)". If all goes well, a reward can be claimed: a fabulous diamond from an Eastern idol, the "Eye of Miradad". However, it must be found first.
The player inputs all actions via verb-noun commands with the keyboard to interact with the surroundings, such as "GET KEY" or "DROP ROPE". To make things simpler, the first three letters of a word may be used. To navigate through the locations in the game use "(N)ORTH", "(S)OUTH", "(E)AST", "(W)EST", "(U)P" and "(D)OWN". Things can be investigated with "EXAMINE" or "LOOK". "INV" will give an inventory of what the player is carrying. "HELP" will give the instructions and "QUIT" will end the game.
Before loading the tape the "CAPS LOCK" must be set to ON. It is possible to save the game at any time ("SAVE"), but make sure to use a blank cassette. Before the game starts, it will give the option to to load a saved game.
