Dead Space

Game cover: Dead Space

Description

Dead Space is a single-player survival horror game, and remake of the original, Dead Space. The story follows Isaac Clarke, an engineer assigned to repair the massive mining ship USG Ishimura after it mysteriously goes silent. Arriving with a small crew, he quickly discovers that the ship has been overrun by monstrous creatures called Necromorphs, humans grotesquely transformed by an alien artifact known as the Marker. With communications cut off and the ship in ruin, Isaac must survive the horrors aboard the Ishimura, uncover what happened to the crew, and search for his missing partner, Nicole.

The core gameplay focuses on third-person exploration and combat in the claustrophobic corridors of the derelict ship. Players navigate freely but must contend with limited visibility, environmental hazards, and constant ambushes from enemies. Combat emphasizes "strategic dismemberment," encouraging the player to aim for enemy limbs rather than body shots. Different Necromorph types have unique attack patterns and weak points, requiring varied tactics. Weapons are repurposed engineering tools such as the plasma cutter, line gun, and flamethrower, each upgradeable with nodes found throughout the game. Ammunition and supplies are scarce, reinforcing the survival aspect. The player also has access to a stasis module, which slows down enemies or moving machinery, and a kinesis module, which manipulates objects at a distance and can be used creatively in both puzzles and combat.

Progression is tied to exploring different sections of the Ishimura, each with its own objectives, locked doors, and environmental challenges. Save stations and workbenches provide points to manage resources, customize weapons, and improve Isaac’s suit.

This remake introduces new voice acting for Isaac, restructured environments, and additional narrative detail. Zero-gravity sequences allow for full 360-degree movement, replacing the limited jump system of the original.
