Epitaph

Created as part of a game jam investigating the Fermi Paradox -- the question of why, given a virtually infinite universe, we aren't awash in signs of extraterrestrial civilizations -- this game allows players to slowly guide the scientific development of nascent cultures on far-off worlds by selecting from a handful of options at the appropriate level of a tech tree. In between selections, players need to wait for years (seconds, in player-time), during which idle time their wards may make independent discoveries or run up against civilization-ending problems. But fear not, another game session and a new civilization are never far away!
