Description

Frankie Dettori Champion Stakes: The No1 Horse Racing Game is a family horse racing game. Inside the case are two pads of betting slips, an 'Odds Table' card, a DVD and, in the copy submitted here, a competition entry for a holiday.

The DVD starts with an introduction from Frankie Dettori who helps player's through the game setup. The first task, according to Frankie Dettori, is to appoint someone trustworthy as the game's bookie and to give a betting slip to each player.

Playing the game starts with selection of the racecourse, there are ten real courses to choose from, after which Frankie Dettori pops up to describe the course a little bit, then it's on to the races. There are three races per course and each is run the same way.

Initially the details of each horse scroll across the screen and the bookie makes a note of the name and the odds. All players then write the name of the horse they select, the kind of bet - win or place, and the amount of the bet on their betting slip. For those unfamiliar with betting there's an on-screen option which will bring Frankie Dettori to the fore to explain how the bets work, he also shows a few worked examples.

Once the betting slips have been handed to the bookie the button on the remote is pressed and the race is run. These races are NOT animations of computer generated in any way, they are recordings of actual races run at real race courses. When a race is over the winners are announced, the bookie does all the calculations and payouts manually, and the next race is started. When al three races from the chosen racecourse have been run the players are returned to the racecourse menu for another session.

There's an Extras menu which contains;* Frankie Dettori explaining how to bet - this is also available in-game

  • Frankie's Magnificent Seven: Video clips from 28th September 1992 when Frankie Dettori won all seven races on the card at Ascot
  • Racing Jargon: Frankie Dettori pops up again to introduce a couple of screens of text containing betting and racing phrases and their meanings
  • An option to print more betting slips

According to the packaging somewhere on the disc are Hidden Bloopers.
