Galactic Taipan
Description
Galactic Taipan is a 1-player strategy trading game for the TRS-80 CoCo.
You've just sunk every cent you own into your own space ship. You're convinced you are as good a trader as any of those you have worked for these last few years. Now, you're going to get a chance to prove it. As you come in for a landing, your first as captain of your own ship, you reflect on the obstacles, both natural and man made facing you.
The player travels between star systems buying and selling goods to turn a profit. From the main menu, the player can view their cargo manifest, access the planet's marketplace, access financial services which allows purchasing a new ship, enacting repairs, or taking out a loan with interest. The player can view local star systems to plan their next trip, and can then travel either fast or slow, which influences fuel consumption and cost, to a new location.
Planets have 4 different development levels, which determine the type of goods they're willing to buy or sell. There are a variety goods available for trade. The player must avoid dangers including space storms that can damage both ships and cargo, and space pirates that can damage your vessel and steal cargo. If the player is sufficiently armed, they can challenge pirates in combat and earn bounties by neutralizing them.
