Golden Axe Returns

Golden Axe Returns is a fan-game based on the Golden Axe series. Taking place after Golden Axe III and before Golden Axe: The Revenge of Death Adder, the mythical Golden Axe has yet again been stolen by an evil force, this time led by Hellstrike, and heroes must set out to stop this.

The game is a side-scrolling beat 'em up for up to four players, playing largely similar to the original games in the series. There are ten different characters from, returning from previous Golden Axe games. Different weapons, ranging from various swords and spears to maces and staffs, can be picked up and euipped to modify the playstyle. Two weapon slots are available, but to ride the series' trademark beasts a slot must be empty.

Magic potions and spellbooks are gathered to fill up the player's magic meter, which can then be used to cast powerful magic attacks. The higher the meter, the more powerful magic becomes available.
