Izumi Jiken Files: Shiosai-hen

Description

This is the first outing of the Izumi Case Files, a series of mystery adventure games following the deductions of Izumi Kido. These games are known for being set in well-researched real-world environments; this game takes place in Kamakura and Hamaya, both located in Kamagawa prefecture on the east coast of Japan.

The beginning of this game finds Kido working as an editor for successful novelist Masamune Kagami. When he abandons his novel and heads on a trip to Kamagawa prefecture, she tails him there to try to get him back on track for his deadline. When she finally finds him, however, she discovers with shock that a death has taken place nearby. The victim, a 54-year-old company executive, has died from an apparently accidental fall, but Kagami is convinced it's murder - and he's not getting back to work until the case is solved. If Kido wants the manuscript in time, she's going to have to play detective and figure out the culprit.

This Japanese-style mystery adventure game is text-heavy and menu-driven, with players interviewing witnesses and making choices via menus. An in-game notebook lets players keep track of evidence and suspects.
