Josefin: Skolhjälp - Bokstavsdjungeln

Description

Josefin: Skolhjälp - Bokstavsdjungeln is one of eight educational games in a series, for 6-12 year old children, focusing on teaching language skills. The game is available in the Nordic languages Danish, Finnish, Norwegian and Swedish, and the whole series is a spinoff from the original Josefin series. The characters in the story are either antropomorphic, or complete fantasy creatures.

The premise is that Josefin and her pilot friend were out delivering air-mail, when the pilot fell asleep and crashed in the jungle. They survived but the plane is broken and needs repairing, but luckily another friend lives nearby who can help them out of the jungle. As is often the case in games this requires the player to help the friend, in this case to retrieve some animals who has escaped from a fantasy book into the djungle. All the escapists are even more out of a fantasy than the main antropomorphic characters themselves, and don't fit in the 'real' djungle of the game.

To get the animals back in the book, there is a hunter who catches them one by one, and then the player has to make a deal with him to buy them. Paying for the animals involves three tasks:

  1. digging for jewels in a cave, where the owner only allows the player to pick the jewels in order needed to spell the words for pictures shown on a scroll.
  2. asking a bongo player to drum messages to a far-away native village, begging for herbs, where message syllables are spread out over 2-4 drums.
  3. once the animal is paid for, the cage must be opened by selecting a specific letter related to the name of the caught animal. (e.g. the next letter in the alphabet).

There is also a possibility to catch some animals yourself, without the hunter, but then you need to find the animal asleep in the djungle. Once the book is full of animals on all pages, the plane can be repaired and the game is finished. Each task has three difficulty levels to choose from. Six manual save-game slots are available.
