Learning Land 3: At The Funfair

Description
Learning Land 3: At The Funfair is one of a series of educational titles aimed at young children. The Learning Land series was published as a part-work with a new magazine and CD appearing every two weeks. As with all titles in the series this runs directly from the CD, though the player's progress is stored locally, and all activities are mouse controlled. The CD runs full-screen mode which is fixed at 640x480, if the screen resolution is set to anything higher that this it plays with wide black borders around a central window.
All titles in the series are fully voiced and contain four educational activities and a 'Funstation' activity. Completing each of the first four activities earns the player a piece of a jigsaw, called a "Jiggle" because "it makes you giggle". There four pieces to be earned each week but sixteen pieces, or four issues worth, are needed to complete each puzzle.
The story for this issue is that there's a funfair in town and 'we all love a funfair don't we?'. The game starts at the funfair with an interactive screen, the players all say their piece and then introduce their activities.
The activities in this issue are; Number Hunt: This is this issue's Numbers activity. There are two levels of difficulty in this game each of which uses a separate screen but asks the same questions such as
"Can you find the number xx* that is hidden somewhere in this picture?", or
"Click on the five yellow wheels " or "eleven people with black hair".
When the player finds all the items of a given type the game counts out the number found from one to whatever slowly and clearly, in both cases the player gets a "'WellDone!". There are ten questions per round and after two rounds the player is rewarded with a jigsaw piece.
-
Crazy Maze: This is this issue's Nature activity. Biff has won a coconut at the funfair and wants to plant it. By clicking on the on-screen arrows the player guides a bouncing ball round a maze within which are watering cans. When the first watering can is encountered Biff's seed gets planted. As the remaining watering cans are encountered the seed gets watered and grows, it flowers when the game is completed. The game can be replayed and there is at least one other maze to be played .
-
Rainbow Letters:. This is this issue's Letters activity and it's a painting game. The player is presented with an outline picture where the shapes all have letters associated with them, these letters correspond to paint pots. The player clicks on a shape then on the appropriate paint pot until the image is coloured in. Once completed the image can be printed off and given to a friend as a present.
-
Me & My Friends: This is a dice game for two people called 'Stop, Look, Listen!' . The players take turns to click on a dice and move round the board from the character's house to the funfair. When they come to a road play stops and they must answer a Yes/No question to continue. Sample questions are
"Is it safe to stick your head out of the window of the car?"
Should you wear a helmet when riding your bike?"
Can you ask a lollipop person to help you cross the road?" and
"can you ask a traffic warden to help you cross the road?" -
Funstation. In this issue the Funstation is called 'Funny Face' where the player clicks on buttons to change skin colour, hair, eyes and nose.
