Mac OS X (included games)

Mac OS X (ten) is an operating environment for Apple's computers dating roughly from the turn of the millennium, succeeding its OS 9.

As OS X runs the Darwin operating system under the hood, a variant of UNIX, it also incorporates some common UNIX applications, including the Emacs text editor, which in turn contains minimal implementations of several common games (or "amusements") including tetris, pong, eliza, hanoi, snake, gomoku, life and the text adventure dunnet among others (a complete list of which can be obtained inside Emacs by hitting the very Emacsian key combo Control-h p then selecting "games".)

In addition to these games, Max OS X includes a Chess application (based on glChess) that has been running with the Sjeng strong chess engine since Mac OS X v10.4. Furthermore, it contains a simple Tile Game widget on the Dashboard.

Up to the 2006 Intel hardware changeover, OS X also contained Classic Environment, a "hardware and software abstraction layer" (or emulator of a sort), allowing users to run programs (including games) from previous versions of the Mac OS, while more recent versions include Rosetta, which allows the execution of programs (including games) written for the Mac's prior PowerPC hardware under the new Intel architecture.
