Misadventure

Game cover: Misadventure

Description

Misadventure is a text-only turn-based adventure that begins with you, the protagonist as a volunteer time explorer. Your task is to test out the very latest in time travel technology, the XJZ-7 Mark XXXVI time machine, more specifically to warp yourself to the Middle Ages, return safely and fetch any historical relics you happen to chance upon. The thing is, the time machine is still in experimental stage and quite unpredictable, even dangerous, a fact your superiors conveniently downplay. The actual game takes place in a dungeon of some sort. There are several screens to visit, some of which may be occupied by the occasional monster. In other locations, a piece of treasure of a useful item may be found. You move about and solve simple riddles by using what objects you possess (i.e. GET PHASER, SHOOT SPIDER, and so on). Reaching the exit will take the protagonist to the ending.

Misadventure is a homebrew and as far as adventure games go, a very short one. The text parser understands single words or the typical VERB-NOUN format. It features no graphics whatsoever, but it automatically provides a description for your current location and situation. The narration is often verbose and humorous to supplement the story.
