Monster Coming

Game cover: Monster Coming

Description

Monster Coming is a single-player rogue-like survival game. When a rift appears in the sky spewing out endless monsters, the player heads directly into the thick of the swarm.

After picking a character, the player is placed into a large area and attacked by an increasingly large number of monsters. Attacks are on a timer, and are not controlled by the player, and up to six weapons can be equipped in a run. Killed monsters drop gems, which will let the player level up. When leveling up, the player chooses between three upgrades, which could be new weapons, upgraded weapons, or character upgrades. New and upgraded weapons let the player choose from one of three bonuses, which could be as simple as extra attack speed or higher damage, or could be something odd, like petrifying hit enemies. Character upgrades could be increased critical chance, or number of attacks, and will apply to all weapons if applicable. Example weapons include the short sword, which will attack in the direction the player is pointing, and the Fist of the Tathagata, which will slam down on a random area, massively damaging all enemies it hits. Bosses will appear every so often, and when killed will drop a chest that will level up the player. Once the final boss of an area is defeated, the player returns to the tavern.

Between levels, the player can purchase upgrades with gold. These are similar to the character upgrades that can drop during gameplay, but are permanent. Gold can also be used to unlock new characters. After completing an area, the area can be replayed at a higher level. Higher levels are similar, but with a modifier, such as increased speed, or a limit on the number of weapons that can be equipped. After completing an area on a high enough level, the next area will be unlocked.
