Pipistrello and the Cursed Yoyo

Pipistrello and the Cursed Yoyo is a 2D diagonal-down action-adventure that blends combat, exploration, and puzzle-solving in a dense urban setting, drawing inspiration from classic 8- and 16-bit Zelda-style design. You play as Pippit, a young bat and aspiring yoyo master who becomes entangled in a power struggle within his family’s energy empire. After an attack on his aunt, fragments of her soul are scattered across the city, embedded in batteries controlled by rival crime bosses. Recovering them drives exploration across a sprawling metropolis made up of four distinct districts, each packed with secrets, challenges, and interconnected locations.

The yoyo is the core of the experience, functioning as both weapon and traversal tool. As new tricks are unlocked, it enables increasingly complex movement options such as crossing gaps, grinding along surfaces, and chaining maneuvers together to reach hidden areas. These abilities gradually recontextualize the city layout, encouraging backtracking and experimentation.

Progression is supported by multiple customization systems. A badge system allows players to equip modifiers that affect combat and movement, with limited capacity encouraging deliberate build choices. Passive upgrades are acquired through a contract-based system that temporarily applies negative effects until debts are repaid through exploration and combat, adding a risk–reward layer to character growth.

The city replaces traditional fantasy overworlds and dungeons with malls, stadiums, offices, and industrial zones, while combat mixes fast-paced action with environmental puzzles. There are optional assist settings available to adjust damage, health, and drop rates. Visually, the game adopts a 16-bit aesthetic inspired by handheld-era classics, with optional display filters such as CRT and pixel-perfect modes.
