Description

Shadows of Doubt is a single-player detective and stealth simulation game set in a procedurally generated, dystopian city inspired by a hyper-industrialized version of the 1980s.

Players take the role of a freelance private investigator navigating the sprawling metropolis. The main storyline tasks you with tracking a serial killer whose crimes leave behind a trail of evidence hidden across the city. At the same time, you may choose to earn money by solving side cases ranging from burglary investigations to missing persons. The setting emphasizes secrecy and survival in a noir-inspired world where every citizen has their own home, workplace, and daily routine.

The city is fully simulated and explorable. Each building, apartment, and back alley can be entered, with interiors containing personal possessions, documents, and clues tied to their occupants. Citizens are autonomous and continue with their schedules whether or not the player interacts with them. This design allows investigations to unfold dynamically, as suspects and witnesses move naturally through the world, creating opportunities to tail individuals, observe habits, or break into private areas to uncover hidden evidence.

Investigation gameplay revolves around collecting information, piecing together physical and digital records, and linking data through a case board system. You may hack security systems, rifle through mailboxes, examine fingerprints, and search computer terminals for emails or transaction logs. Clues can be cross-referenced manually on the investigation board, with photographs, notes, and evidence pinned and connected to build a logical picture of events.

Stealth mechanics allow players to infiltrate locations undetected. Lockpicks, keycards, and hacking tools provide access to restricted spaces, while avoiding surveillance cameras and guards requires timing and patience. Choices carry risk: raising suspicion or leaving evidence behind may cause suspects or authorities to react differently later in the investigation.

The game’s open-ended structure supports multiple playstyles. You may approach cases methodically, gathering evidence until an arrest is certain, or attempt bolder strategies by confronting suspects earlier. Success provides income that can be spent on equipment, tools, or personal upgrades, while failure may damage reputation or endanger the investigator’s life.

Replay value is emphasized through procedural generation. Every new game creates a unique city with a fresh layout, new citizens, and different cases to pursue. Because of this system, no two investigations are identical.
