Skills Practice: A Home Visit is a short game created with professors from various universities in Toronto, Canada.
The aim of the game is to teach skills related to establishing a therapeutic nurse-client relationship with a patient and completing a mental health assessment.
Players take control of a community health nurse assigned to complete a home visit with Irina, a 38 year old woman who is on the verge of a mental breakdown. There are a few reasons for her suffering: her son Sasha's deteriorating health, physical abuse from her partner and being financially insecure. The game features full motion videos which will be interrupted to let players choose what they should say and how they should act when, for example, Irina offers them to sit or to drink some tea. Players will then see what their actions will lead to and the game will give an assessment of their choice. Their choice can be correct, incorrect or not the best and, while the game will keep track of the player's first answer for the summary report, only the correct choice will allow players to continue the story.
After completing all 13 scenarios, the game will give a summary report with an assessment of the player's responses and links to the suggested module readings related to the topic.
