So Let Us Melt

Game cover: So Let Us Melt

Description

So Let Us Melt is a first-person, story-driven virtual reality experience released for Google Daydream devices. The game focuses on Custodian 98, a man-made machine tasked with assisting other machines in the creation of a new world called Kenopsia. Over a period of 10 million years, Custodian 98 acted under the directives of older machines, traveling to designated locations and singing songs that shaped the environment for future human habitation. Custodian 98 is accompanied by a drone, who serves as a companion throughout Custodian 98's journey.

The gameplay consists of linear exploration through a series of natural and engineered environments; players travel through deep oceans, canyons, and forests, as well as futuristic cities. While players can freely look around these environments, movement is restricted to a set path. Occasionally, the player needs to point the controller at an object or trace a pattern on-screen, which causes Custodian 98 to sing and change a part of the scenery. As the players complete these tasks, an off-screen narrator gradually reveals information explaining the setting, the significance of Custodian 98's actions, and the fates of the machine and the Kenopsia project.

Following the discontinuation of the Daydream platform in October 2019, So Let Us Melt was removed from the Google Play Store.
