Solid Gold
Description
Solid Gold is a platform game inspired by the likes of Rick Dangerous with small sprites, unforgiving jumps and enemy patterns. It is deliberately made in an early 90s style, and runs on even a basic Amiga 500 with 1 MB of memory.
John Kayle, a doctor in archeology and adventurer, receives a letter from his respected mentor Lord Joffrey Montgomery, mentioning a top secret research project involving a rare Mayan artefact. When Kayle arrives at Montgomery's mansion, he finds his mentor bleeding, and is asked to find the artefact and set off on a journey, while escaping the criminals who assaulted the lord and tried to steal the artefact. The journey begins in London and progresses via Egypt, South America and Babylon.
The game mechanics of Solid Gold are simple: The only controls are for walking, climbing and jumping, and doesn't even make use of the joystick button (though the second button of joypads is supported for jumping in a console fashion). Enemies are disposed of by jumping on their head, making Kayle bounce further. Bonus points are awarded by bouncing from enemy to enemy. Gems spread out across the levels grant extra lives for each 50 collected.
