Space Engineers
Description
Space Engineers is a single-player and multiplayer sandbox construction and survival game. Set in outer space and on planetary surfaces, the game places the player in the role of an engineer tasked with building, maintaining, and surviving within large, fully destructible environments. There is no central storyline, but the game is framed around themes of exploration, resource management, and engineering in hostile conditions. Players can design and construct ships, stations, and vehicles while deciding how to approach survival, combat, or creative expression.
Gameplay is built around a voxel-based building system that allows players to assemble structures from individual blocks. Ships and stations can be customized with engines, reactors, thrusters, weapons, and life-support modules. Structural integrity and weight distribution are important, as poor design choices can cause ships to collapse or fail during maneuvers. Tools such as the welder and grinder are used to construct and dismantle components, while the hand drill and mining equipment enable resource collection. Survival mode emphasizes limited supplies, where players must gather ores, refine materials, and manage energy consumption. Health, oxygen, and power reserves must be monitored, with systems in place for maintaining life support in space or underground.
Progression is linked to the player’s ability to expand their engineering capabilities. Blueprints allow for efficient construction of vehicles and devices, while technology research and component crafting determine which systems can be built.
Multiplayer allows cooperative construction projects and competitive encounters. Players can form factions, share blueprints, and coordinate large-scale engineering projects. Dedicated servers support persistent worlds, where groups can establish bases and fleets.
